The system regulates movement of probationers and parolees across state lines in all 50 states, and three U.S. territories; District of Columbia, U.S. Virginia Islands and Puerto Rico. The system enhances public safety and offender accountability. It has become a powerful and adaptive tool for promoting and ensuring cooperative action among the states and the single standard of supervision for adult offender movement.
